Childrens health-Supplements to boost immune function
- Multivitamin
By giving a multivitamin daily you are adding vitamins and minerals that they may not be getting from their diet due to poor diet or nutritional deficiencies in the soil. Also you are assisting their immune system. Many minerals have scientifically been proven to be deficient in our soils. The horticulture and farming industry add minerals to their soils for better health and harvesting, so why shouldn't we?
2. Fish oils
- Nordic Naturals Arctic Cod Liver Oil This one is great for the whole family, Children under 5 years only need 1/4 of a teaspoon.
Fish oils are so beneficial for everyone's health. Nordic Naturals fish oils have exceptional quality, purity and potency. Deficiency in essential fatty acids may result in fatigue, poor memory, immune weakness, poor circulation, dry skin, eczema, and hair loss.
When Sick
At the first sign of sickness such as a runny nose or sore throat or any virus eg chickenpox, shingles, and cold sores you can use;
- Clinician's Hi Dose Vitamin C ¼ of a teaspoon is 1g or 1000mg. Children over the age of 1 put ¼ teaspoon into their drink bottle and when they have finished the bottle add another ¼ teaspoon. I encourage my children to have their water when sick so they are having ¼ teaspoon morning, afternoon and before bed. Your body tells you when you have had enough vitamin C, you will get a rumbly tummy, wind then diarrhoea. The sicker you are the more vitamin C you would need to get those symptoms. Children 6 months to 1 years 1/8 teaspoon. ( Under the age of 1 year. 100mg Vitamin C per month age per 24 hours)
- Inner Health for kids. Acidophilus supports the immune system. So I add it to their water with vitamin C or add onto their cereal. Extremely important when on antibiotics to replace the beneficial flora of the gut. Can also be used with tummy bugs, vomiting and diarrhoea. By correcting the flora it can assist the recovery of the body.
If one person in the house has got a cold, I use the above to protect other family members immune system. Also to encourage rest, fluids and keeping away from sugary foods as this weakens the immune system. Also if kids are not hungry leave them be. If we are busy digesting food there is less energy for the immune system, just keep up with fluids
